I’m not a psychiatrist but, I could probably classify myself as having OCD.

Isn’t it only OCD if it genuinely interferes with your daily routine? Like, being a neat freak doesn’t qualify you as OCD, but being unable to leave your house unless you’ve gone through an exact routine does.

I know I’m not the most informed person, but… I know a lot of people who could classify as having personality disorders and that sort of thing. I think it’s really unfair that the way some villain characters who have them are treated as “lunatics” or “psychopaths” or just “crazy”. They’re bad…

I dont think anyone equates a supervillain kind of psychopath with someone who has a mental disorder. I think they are two different things, and I think most people can tell the difference easily.

I believe that if society starts getting too sensitive about semantics then we will lose many good things about comics and cartoons. Hell, it’s already begun.
Soon being “evil” will be classed as a personality disorder which we can’t talk about anymore, and cartoons will become padded rooms where no one hurts but no has fun either.

The thing people need to remember (and myself included) is that you don’t have to protect everyone. I learned recently that when you try and protect people constantly, it alienates them. My brother has autism and aspergers, and although he is high functioning, I feel the need to get offended for him in a lot of cases. Get angry at people and start fights over words. Having feelings about things my brother doesn’t even care about.

I’m not saying it’s okay for people to make fun of, or bash, or only represent mentally or physically disabled people in a negative light. I’m only saying that it’s counter productive to try and over-protect them from every little thing.

I’m not saying that things need to all be entirely inoffensive! You’re talking to the biggest Suda51 fan ever |D I’m all for offensive things (as horrible as that sounds hahaskfjsdjkf). I’m just saying that more people need to be mindful that things that you need to be mindful of things that are offensive, and that we need to know when something represented in fiction is fiction and when it isn’t.

And, well, you and I know that a supervillain isn’t the same as an innocent person with a personality disorder, but who’s to say that somebody out there won’t? As long as there’s people there’s going to be stereotypes about people, and all I want from comics is for characters to start being known as… “he’s evil and also he has X” instead of “he’s evil BECAUSE he has X”.

I think it’s really unfair that the way some villain characters who have them are treated as “lunatics” or “psychopaths” or just “crazy”. They’re bad people because they make bad decisions, not because of what they have. It’s wrong to lump people in with these caricatures but it happens anyway.

Pop culture, man. :c

Even if I have a lot to learn myself, I’m glad that I might’ve gotten people to think about this. I feel like I did something good today.

Favorite thing I did in class today:

Today we were talking about how the mentally ill are represented in Batman comics. I asked the class for a vague lists of stages that would lead a character to become a “crazy” villain.

And then notified the class that these are also the same steps one would take to become Batman.

Christoph Waltz as Beatty.

Anna Maria Muhe as Clarisse. I’ve never seen Muhe act, so I’m just basing this off appearance, but holy shit Waltz would be the best Beatty.

yes chrisoph waltz would be perfect

i wish there was a fahrenheit 451 movie that wasn’t incredibly silly

like the original where clarisse and mildred were the same actress and guy was just… really really awkward to watch.

CAN YOU IMAGINE HIS LAST SCENE, CAN YOU IMAGINE IT HHHHHHHHHH

and me too, i haven’t seen it myself but i hear it’s not that great, and i know bradbury didn’t care for the romance subplot 8(

Every time I remember that Fahrenheit 451 exists, I feel the urge to re-read it. Then I have to talk myself out of re-reading it for the 4th time. (It’s probably been more ahhhh /face in hands) L-like I did yesterday after reading the first couple pages again…

It’s just a really beautiful, inspiring book, even if it is very bleak at the same time. I remember reading the entire thing when we flew to New York for vacation last summer; I got to the quote that I posted and wept like a baby on the plane because it’s just… incredibly powerful.

Ray Bradbury, man.

I still want to shake his hand one day.

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you’re there. It doesn’t matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching, he said. The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.” —Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

71 - What kind of music do you like?

OH GOD ALL KINDS. Check my music tag, everything from trip hop to indie folky hipstery stuff to 80’s rock and whatever in between. My favorite band is Radiohead, but… I have a lot of other favorites. I just like a lot of music!!

6 - Age you get mistaken for

People think I’m in high school sometimes. I’m a junior in college. 8C (I am younger, though, so I can forgive it—I’m 19.)

47 - Have you ever had an imaginary friend?

Yes.

When I was a kid, I remember going to somebody’s birthday party—probably at a bowling alley, or something. There was a fighting game set up in one area, and this one ninja character on the screen really called out to 4-year-old me. I have no idea what his original name was, nor what fighting game he was from (I’ve been trying to work it out for ages) but I know that he was a ninja dressed in blue.

So… my imaginary friend was a ninja named Iago (rhyming with Diego) who had to live with us because his parents were dead.

4-YEAR-OLD ME WAS AWESOME.

63 - A quote you try to live by:

Gonna post it separately, it’s a bit long. Gimme a second. <:

10 - What is your hair color?

Black! Really dark black. I tried to highlight it once, but it barely touched my hair at all, so I’m just going to keep it black forever and ever until I get old and go gray.

12 - What is your eye color?

Dark brown. Yep. Hi I am incredibly incredibly southeast Asian.

78 - Describe your dream library:

Books and comics and movies from floor to ceiling, and a ladder to get me to the top shelves!! There’d also be little nooks and a nice cushy sunny windowsill with pillows on it for me to read on. …Also there would be no internet to distract me from the books. I love you internet but really.

79 - Last movie you just watched:

Uhhh crap. I think it was Killer’s Kiss for film noir class last week. I was supposed to watch Blade Runner, but I put it off and never actually did it. (I’LL GET TO IT THIS WEEK, MAYBE.)
